Ableforths Bathtub Gin

With a nod and wink to history, the Ableforth’s Bathtub Gin is named after bathtubs which featured heavily in gin production in the 1700s when gin was both taxed heavily and then eventually banned from production during the first gin craze in London. Bathtubs, being one of the largest, often copper, vessels available to the common-folk in this era – they were used for production with oft dire consequences. Not only was the gin quite often poisonous but it was common for people to be injured or die from bathtubs exploding in houses.

Fast forward 350 years and introduce the Ableforth’s company which now produces all manner of spirits starting with their Bathtub Gin – It’s a London Dry but produce in a style from a recipe that is nearly 400 years old. We think this is basically how gin would have tasted when London Dry was first conceived as a style (although probably in Plymouth, not in London – don’t tell the Londoners!).
