Liverpool Organic Gin

The original Liverpool brewery, where the gin was first distilled, is located near the site of the old Bank Hall distillery. England, in that era, was not well known for its distilling, let alone Liverpool specifically, but the city did have two distilleries throughout the Victorian era, the Bank Hall distillery being one of them. It was one of only four distilleries in England producing malt whisky in the 19th century. At its peak, it was producing 1.5M litres of spirits, but it closed sometime before 1903. Liverpool gin is distilled in the image of the sights, sounds and flavours of the Liverpool docks of the 18th and 19th century, when distilling was a large part of life in the city.

These days, the gin is distilled onsite in a 600L copper still called Margaret. The distillery was founded less than 10 years ago in 2013 by a brewer and the gin was initially made in the brewery before moving to a four-floor site in Liverpool city. Almost unique among gins in the Box Bar catalogue, it’s made using only certified organic botanicals, including hand-picked juniper, angelica, coriander, and citrus (notably orange) – almost all of which are noble botanicals.
