Monkey 47 Sloe Gin

Monkey 47 made waves in the gin industry with their dry gin which claims to have more botanicals than any other gin in the world – 47 (and thus the name) botanicals are used. The exact list is a trade secret but some people have said that the gin is almost too complex and you can’t taste the individual botanicals. We think it’s like going to a gastronomic-focused restaurant and tasting a flavour that is more than the sum of it’s ingredients.

Interesting the based spirit is made from molasses and we’re pretty sure it’s the only gin at Box Bar that is made with a spirit produced from molasses.

Sloe gin is made by taking sloe berries (similar to a plum, although the size of a small olive) which grown on the blackthorn bush and infusing it in the dry gin. The sloe berries for this gin were hand picked in the Black Forest in the south west of Germany (near the border to France). This sloe gin is one of just a handful made with hand foraged sloes still – notable others are Plymouth Sloe Gin (UK) and Dasher+Fisher Sloe Gin (Tas, Australia)
