Scapegrace Black Gin

Scapegrace, which was formerly known as Rogue Society is made by two Kiwi brothers-in-law in Christchurch. The black, distinctive bottle is a modern take on genever bottles from the 19th century.

Made in a 19th century whisky still stumbled across in an abandoned shed after much conversation between the brothers about how much they wanted to make a gin. The natural black colour comes from the combination of Aronia Berry (native NZ botanical), Saffron, Pineapple, Butterfly Pea and Sweet Potato – The gin beckons “Come to the Dark Side” and we love the dark side!

The colour of the gin is made possible thanks to the precise temperatures that the botanicals are distilled at and the order in which the botanicals are added. Besides the exciting taste, it boast an above average level of theatrics with a natural pH indicator – butterfly pea – which turns purple/lilac when exposed to an acid (all carbonated drinks are acidic).

It’s currently quite tricky to source in Australia because it keeps getting drunk before it leaves New Zealand. Recently, Box Bar was chosen as the exclusive partner for their launch into the Australian market, so we’re looking forward to sharing more Scapegrace with our customers in the near future!
